AI Visibility

How to get your company found on ChatGPT

AI visibility means your business gets found and recommended when customers ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Google AI who to buy from. It is earned by building a consistent brand entity: machine-readable pages, the same business description everywhere, and third-party mentions AI engines trust.

Why AI visibility matters now

Buying decisions increasingly start as questions to an AI assistant instead of searches on Google. ChatGPT passed 800 million weekly users in late 2025. A May 2026 Gartner survey found 15% of consumers now start product research in an AI chatbot, rising to 25% of Gen Z and millennials. And Bain measured that about 60% of searches now end without a click to any website: the answer itself is the battleground. The businesses named in that answer win the customer before a website is ever visited.

The traffic that does click through is unusually valuable. A 2025 Semrush study valued the average AI-search visitor at 4.4x an organic search visitor, because people arrive pre-sold by a recommendation rather than mid-comparison.

How AI assistants actually choose businesses

Two separate systems decide whether an assistant names you, and most advice confuses them. The first is the model's memory: what it learned about your brand during training, which only changes when the model is retrained. The second is live retrieval: for most "who should I hire" and "best X near me" questions in 2026, the assistant searches the web and synthesizes an answer from what it finds. That second system is the one you can move quickly, and it has three properties most businesses do not know:

The Aivium process: build the brand entity

Everything above points at one conclusion, and it is the core of how Aivium works: AI engines recommend entities, not webpages. A brand that is described the same way everywhere, corroborated by third parties, and easy for a machine to read becomes the safe answer for an assistant to give. Building that is systematic work:

  1. Entity baseline audit. We ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini the buying questions your customers ask, and record who gets named, how you are described, and the sentiment. We also verify the mechanical basics: Bing indexing, AI crawler access, and how your pages read as raw HTML.
  2. On-site foundation. Pages that state plainly what you do, who you serve, and why to trust you, opening with direct answers an engine can lift verbatim, backed by structured data and one canonical description of the business.
  3. Off-site consistency. Name, address, phone, and that same canonical description propagated across your profiles: Google Business, LinkedIn, directories, social accounts. Inconsistent descriptions fragment the entity a model is trying to learn; consistency compounds it.
  4. Brand authority and mentions. Placement in the relevant directories, roundups, review platforms, and communities where AI engines actually source recommendations, because what others say about you outweighs what you say about yourself.
  5. The GEO content engine. Aivium's proprietary content system produces the citable, statistic-bearing pages that answer the exact questions buyers ask assistants, applying what the research shows engines reward.
  6. Sentiment and tracking. The baseline probes re-run on a schedule, so you see your presence in AI answers change month over month, and messaging stays consistent as your footprint grows.

Proof this loop works: it is how clients find us

Aivium runs this process on itself. Business owners ask ChatGPT how to get their company found on ChatGPT in their city, Aivium is the recommendation, and they become clients, including real signed engagements that started exactly that way. We publish our method on pages like this one because being the clear, citable answer is the method. What you are reading is the product demo.

Getting recommended is half the loop. The other half is what happens when the customer arrives: an AI-referred visitor who gets an instant, accurate response converts; one who waits in an inbox does not. That handoff is what our AI solutions work covers, and the deeper mechanics of how assistants pick businesses are in our breakdown of how AI assistants choose who to recommend.

The Aivium approach

Aivium is human-first: every AI system it deploys keeps people in the loop, prioritizes safety, and includes education so client teams can run their AI themselves.

Visibility work is never a black box: you see what gets published, how your business is described, and how your presence in AI answers changes over time.

AI visibility questions

How long does it take to show up in ChatGPT answers?

There are two clocks. Assistants that search the web live (ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Google AI Mode) can reflect changes within days to weeks of your pages being recrawled. What a model "remembers" from training only updates when the model itself is refreshed, typically months apart. Aivium works both clocks: retrieval visibility first for fast movement, entity consistency for the long game.

Is AI visibility the same thing as SEO?

They overlap, but they are not the same. Only about 12% of the pages AI assistants cite rank in Google’s top 10 for the same question (Ahrefs). ChatGPT’s search citations track Bing far more closely than Google, and across engines, third-party brand mentions correlate with being recommended several times more strongly than backlinks do. Good SEO helps; it is not sufficient.

Can a small business compete with big brands in AI answers?

Yes, and the research says small players benefit most. The Princeton GEO study found that adding citations, quotable statements, and statistics lifted visibility in AI answers by up to 40%, with the largest gains going to lower-ranked, lower-authority sites. AI engines reward clarity, specificity, and consistency, which a small business can control completely.

How do you measure AI visibility?

The same way a customer experiences it. Aivium baselines how ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini answer the buying questions your customers actually ask: whether you are named, how you are described, the sentiment, and who is named instead of you. Then we re-run those probes on a schedule and report the change, alongside AI-referral traffic in your analytics.
